What to expect at the summer yoga retreat

We are splashing into summer to celebrate the solstice with another seasonal retreat. The second of four retreats that I’m co-hosting with Morgan at Current Bliss Yoga is happening in less than two weeks!

Take a peak at how we will play and grow during the Summer Retreat in this fun video.

What is included?

  • Instruction from three dynamic and experienced teachers from 10am to 4pm (break for lunch) - Morgan, Maxx, and Koral

  • Practices to connect to the heart and small intestines as we move into the fire of summer

  • Resources to guide your energy into a new season

  • Guided SUP yoga practice

  • Floating sound bath on the river with freighter views

  • Allergen friendly homemade lunch options, including seasonal skewers and lots of hydration

  • All equipment, including yoga mats and props in the studio and paddleboards and water safety equipment for the afternoon on the water

  • Beautiful water-themed beadwork pieces created by Allyse

What will the practices be like?

  • We will start the day in the studio to engage in somatic practices to connect to our energy and explore how we source and expend that energy

  • Studio practices will be gentle, explorative, and accessible

  • This is not a five-hour strenuous movement type of retreat, meaning we have structured the day to give you energy and let you play without wearing you out and contributing to burnout

  • During lunch on Maxx’s patio, you’ll receive water safety instructions before we move towards the dock and boards

  • The afternoon movement on boards will feature instruction to help you learn how to listen to your body and build trust as you try yoga on the board or dock

  • We will end the day with a savasana where your hands can rest in the water as you relax listening to nature and sound bowls

  • There will also be an opportunity to paddle on the river

Do you need experience?

  • You don’t need any prior experience with yoga or paddleboards to join this retreat!

  • Instruction will focus on foundational ways to connect to these practices safely so that you can play at any level. You don’t have to stand on the board to practice. It’s lovely to sit, kneel, and rest on your back as you float. You can even practice on the dock! We have options and will meet you where you are at.

This is a great opportunity to grab a friend, teenage kid, partner, or parent and have some good old fashioned fun away from technology.

How do I sign up?

To sign up, click here or contact Morgan at currentblissyoga@gmail.com because we cannot wait to see you for this special day!

5 Ways I Practiced Yoga Last Week

  1. Ahimsa (kindness): I failed at kind candor this week in an interaction that mad me upset.

  2. Aparigraha (generosity): I received generosity this week from Morgan and Maxx as we prepared for the retreat.

  3. Brahmacharya (moderation): I keep learning that less really can be more.

  4. Pranayama (breath control): I used my breath to switch between things in the week even when it was hard.

  5. Asana (physical postures): I fell trying standing tree pose on the left side on the board. Funny thing is I know this is my weaker side and I still wanted to try anyway. Did you catch the fall and laughter that followed in the video above?

5 Ways You Can Practice Yoga This Week

  1. Ahimsa (kindness): Listen to understand someone with all your focus.

  2. Aparigraha (generosity): Share something that brings joy with another.

  3. Brahmacharya (moderation): Ask yourself as you notice wants or impulse, what feeling is your body looking to source from excess or indulgence?

  4. Pranayama (breath control): Take a breath in, slowly exhale. Use often.

  5. Asana (physical postures): Join me for a practice this week using free videos shared last week or in person!

Reminder that Summer Sunset Yoga at Sherman Park returns this week!

Consider becoming a paid subscriber to access videos that focus on practicing yoga in shorter increments, like 5-15 minutes in your pajamas. This week paid content contains practices to welcome summer that explore twists and folds to access the heart and small intestines as we explore the fire the season brings.
